    2. The Fiction of Narrative, Hayden White, essays Essays on History, Literature, and Theory 1957-2007This book was hard. Really. That’s the first thing to say. Some of the concepts were so over my head I didn’t even know where to begin. So I put it down, and did some research on Hayden White, the author of this collection of essays. Turns out he’s a rock star in the world of narrative theory and literature. Born in 1928, he produced these essays independently, before Robert Doran, the editor, [...]

    3. I've reviewed this elsewhere; suffice to say White's essays are tremendously interesting, and this collection casts his career in a new light. Those who come to White from a literary theory background (especially a poststructualist one) will be interested here to see how his preoccupations at times dovetail with but ultimately diverge from those more orthodox theoretical ones. Doran's introduction is brilliant, and the editing/annotating judicious and helpful.
