    1. Initial Response Wow, was that INSANELY AWESOME or what?!The Seven succeeding Elven Lords of Allyra were dead, lost in the Siege of Berinfell as babes. At least that's what everyone thought until tremors from a distant world known as Earth, revealed strange signs that Elven blood lived among its peoples. With a glimmer of hope in their hearts, sentinels are sent to see if the signs are true. But theirs is not a lone errand. The ruling warlord of Allyra, the Spider King, has sent his own scouts t [...]

    3. I loved this book! You would think with many points of view (see below) it would get confusing, but the story wasn't confusing at all. I really enjoyed learning about the kids' powers. I fell in the love with the characters and am looking forward to the next book by Wayne Thomas Batson and Christopher Hopper, Venom and Song.Genre: Fantasy.Romance: NONE! No romance at all! There was talk toward the end where a group of girls mention Timmy as being "cute." But that was the only thing!Magic: Each o [...]

    4. In The Curse of the Spider King by Wayne Thomas Batson and Christopher Hopper, seven children go about their lives. With the exception of two siblings, these children do not know one another. But they all have two things in common. 1. An adult who has given them a very special book and, 2. A creepy man who watches them wherever they go. Tommy, the first to read his book, experiences a 3D history of Berinfell, a foreign world in the midst of a war between Gwar and Elves.Stranger things start to h [...]

    5. So I am not a literary genius not even close. But despite not knowing the technical details of what makes a good book, I know when I like one.I don't know for sure why I took to this book so much. I think perhaps when I read it, it reflected things I was working through in my own life. Although I read this book about three years ago, something about reading it over eight times has supported my ability to remember it.Though I know the story was epic back then, I found myself less impressed with t [...]

    6. This book has believable protagonists, nightmarish villains, and a lot of action. A major strength of this book is a cast of characters I could identify with. Although I'm older than the main characters in this book, I can remember facing a lot of the same issues as most of the main characters while I was in middle school, which is quite an accomplishment considering there are seven very different ones.Somewhat of a concern is the book's large cast, with many characters with similar occupations [...]

    7. Curse of the Spider King, the first in the Berinfell Prophecies, was co-written by Wayne Thomas Batson and Christopher Hopper. It is an allegorical Christian fantasy fiction with many moral themes. Seven Lords of Allyra, the Elven world, were taken by the Spider King, a wicked enemy bent on eradicating the elves from existence. They were then lost to earth where they were adopted into normal human families. Soon later, Sentinels were sent out to find them and guide them home, before the chiefs [...]

    8. Who wants to be an Elf?Do you have scares on the top of your ears? Did you get strange powers when you turned thirteen? Are you morbidly afraid of spiders? Then you could be an elf! With the young Seven Elven lords stolen from their families as infants. They were taken to earth to be hidden till the ‘Age of Reckoning’. Now the Time has come… The worlds are open for good and for evil to enter… Will the children return or be killed… who will find them first? The Spider King and his minions [...]

    9. Who Likes Elves? This is a perfect book if you love Elves, and who doesn't. After the Spider King minions have destroyed the elves kingdom, Berinfell. He had hoped that was the end of the elves but something happened that he had not planed With the Allyran Elves almost non-existent they have but one hope. And that hope is on earth, hidden within billions of people. This is a fun and exciting book for anyone who likes fantasy. There are a few things that I don't like though. 1) The age of the main [...]

    10. This is a great book. I connected with it quickly and loved the teen elf lords. The elves are like the kind you would read in The Lord OF the Rings, not Santa Clause. Love it. Each character has their own personality that readers can identify with. I personally liked the character Jimmy because his story pulled at my heart strings. The action is exciting and the world of Berinfell is fully developed. The powers of the teens are so cool, ranging from hearing people's thoughts to incredible streng [...]

    11. Second reading and I really enjoyed the story Loved how each character's back story was explained Great ending

    12. Like your mom always told you, "Don't judge a book by its cover." Perhaps this was the real reason this book, given to me by a friend, sat on my shelf for over a year. Nonetheless, when given the sequel by the same friend, it was time to finally pick this one up - and I scarce put it down in the time following. The story quickly encapsulates you, gaining your attention and working your mind to figure out what is going on. For those whose minds work faster than books, perhaps it would not be as mu [...]

    13. Curse of the Spider King introduces us to seven orphans living the hard-knock life (hey, it’s tough just being a tween, even under normal circumstances) in a variety of communities around the world. Some have it better than others, some of them don’t even know they are orphans, but all are facing a rocky adolescence, and not just the usual issues with bullies and bad grades. Alien forces seem to be taking over their bodies, with bursts of super strength and speed, weird premonitions, and enh [...]

    14. At first I was skeptical about his series, with the whole spider thing (not really a fan of them) but this turned out to be a great (if not a little cheesy) serieshighly recommended!

    15. good story, but there are too many main characters and it took forever to set the plot in motion. good enough to read the next one, though.

    16. The Spider King plots to wipe out the entire Elven race with a surprise attack during an event when all 7 Elven Lords (babes) were gathered in the same place at the same time. Sorry, forget the event that was taking place. The Spider King's forces manage to catch the elves by surprise and escape with all 7 babes. He has plotted with the Drefids, his assassins, for them to kill the 7. Butere's a curse that hangs over these 7 Lords (expires when they reach the Age of Reckoning, around age 13, when [...]

    17. I have The Door Within Trilogy by Wayne Thomas Batson at home to read; I have heard wonderful things about it. When I saw this book on my Vine newsletter I was excited! So, I got this book through the Vine program. There are supposed to be at least three book in this series; the second book "Venom and Song" is due out August 2010. This was a fabulous book!Seven kids with very different lives find out they all have one thing in common; their human parents are not their real parents and they the [...]

    18. They were destined for great things, but will they find their true calling before it's too late?Curse of the Spider King co-authored by Wayne Thomas Batson and Christopher Hopper, brings forth a whole slew of characters who might not be quite what they seem. Around their thirteenth birthday, seven children begin to have strange experiences. Bouts of super-human strength, stellar eyesight; mind-reading, to name a few. The answer to these strange "gifts" they seem to possess? They're from another [...]

    19. Cover thoughts:I really like the cover for this one. The picture is pretty cool, the font is good--it's all good. Plus it's a hardcover, without an annoying dust jacket; the picture is right on the cover. I really like that.About the author:Wayne Thomas Batson and Christopher Hopper are joint authors of this one. I've never read anything by either of them, but they've both got other books out that I will be looking for.The plot:Curse of the Spider King introduces us to seven young elven lords. T [...]

    20. Heed the prophecies all you readers out there. I'm sure by now you've scanned reviews and heard the echoes of the impact this book is making. I am 15 years old and devour all kinds of fantasy, secular and Christian, adult and teen works. To start, this book proved itself worthy to sit on the number one spot of my "Best Modern Fantasy" list. At least until its sequel is releasedTSK is about 7 teenagers, each from varying backgrounds (a variety enough for any reader to resonate with at least one), [...]

    21. This book is full of excitement, danger, and thrills. It is a powerful opening to the Berinfell Prophecies series, and kids and teens will eat it up and then anxiously wait for the sequel. Seven young teens around the world begin to discover that they now possess unusual talents that they didn't have before. But that's not all. Their talents draw the attention of mysterious neighbors, beautiful librarians, quirky janitors, and freaky strangers who don't have their best interests in mind. Who can [...]

    22. Okay, don't get me wrong, I read The Door Within and it swept me away. It was one of those head-under-the-covers-with-a-flashlight books. He's a fabulous author and should keep doing what he's doing. But this book kinda sucked. It had a basically good plot but there were way too many characters introduced way too fast. So the first chapter is about Tommy, a normal guy whose parents are seriously over-protective. For some reason or another they let him go into a creepy library in the middle of th [...]

    23. After reading this book I have a new-found, nearly irrational fear of spiders. (Who knew they could get any more creepy!?) Do you have scars on the tops of your ears?Did you get strange powers when you turned thirteen? Are you morbidly afraid of spiders? Then you might be an elf!The Curse of the Spider King has convincing protagonists, nightmarish villains, and plenty of action. The Seven succeeding Elven Lords of Allyra were dead, lost in the Siege of Berinfell as babes. At least that's what ever [...]

    24. From the land of Allyra to planet Earth, "Curse of the Spider King" weaves the story of Elves, Dreadnaughts, Gwar, Drefids, the Spider King, and seven seemingly normal earth-bound kids. Hundreds of years have passed since the Spider King and his helpers drove the Elves underground. While the Elves think all of the lords, including their babies, are dead, a plot is hatched to send the seven baby lords to earth. Why would the Spider King's minions do that? What did they fear if not the King himsel [...]

    25. Scratch scratch scratch… scratching the surface; that’s what this book feels like. Batson and Hopper lay a fantastic foundation for your series and I can’t even begin to tell you how fun and interesting this book was.I think this would be a perfect Christmas gift for your kids this year. I LOVED this book! It was soooo easy to get into and I was engrossed in a matter of minutes with it. It sort of reminds me of “The Never-Ending Story” meets “Lord of The Rings”I know it’s ment of [...]

    26. This is a great Christian fantasy! In another world Elves, children of the light, are fighting the dark forces of the Spider King. The seven elven Lords have given birth to their first born children. During a horrific battle the children are stolen and sent to Earth. The are raised not knowing their true identity or destiny. Each one has a special gift that will help defeat the Spider King, if they can make it back to their land before the Spider King's forces kill them and the elves desperately [...]

    27. When finally I got my hands on this book, it was worth the wait. Just like the previous books by Wayne Thomas Batson and Christopher Hopper, it was filled with adventure, action, suspense, and page-turning plots. Fans of Batson and Hopper will not be disappointed by the authors' latest release; they will love the new characters, settings, and creatures. It was quite interesting seeing the styles of both authors combined. The story had a unique twist; instead of humans from Earth traveling to anot [...]

    28. This is the tale of seven young teens - each surprisingly talented - who discover almost too late that they are elf lords from another world. The evil Spider King wants nothing more than to eradicate the race of elves, so he sends his menacing Drefid assassins to track down and kill the seven elf lords, who are the key to their race's survival. Suddenly the seven, drawn from their homes in different parts of the world, are running from a force they didn't even know existed.Curse of the Spider Ki [...]
