    1. Why are there not more books like this?! The very first book I read of Randall's, and the very best of his works! A exciting war romance, with a mystery entwined, that will keep you on the edge of your chair! And I agree, the last sentence of the book was so beautiful that I just had to sit there after closing the book, and sigh!

    2. Epic book! This is the story of a Union officer that accidentally marries a Southern girl after knocking out her real fiance. If you like stories set in the Civil War, this is a good book for you. (Also, this book has one of the best closing lines I have ever read. It's right up there with the ending of A Tale of Two Cities!)

    3. Excellent story, well written, Christian, loved it. Writing, speech, mannerisms are of the period, and delightful to read, since the author was born just before the Civil War. This book was published in 1909. A Yankee soldier meets a Southern woman and falls in love. Fast-paced, with layers of mystery, murder, and a mountain feud. Don't stop reading until the very last sentence.
