    1. It is difficult to review this book without being the bearer of "spoilers". The story is raw and totally contemporary, and under other circumstances, or in the hands of another writer, it might become both trite and ordinary. With a different writer, Obie and Princess might be lost in the sea of what is fast becoming traditional "street lit". Happily, this is not the case. Their story is phrased in a modern epic poem by a skilled and talented writer. Boldly written in a style reminiscent of Spok [...]

    2. Brooklyn Darkchild is a literary wunderkind—Li’l Kim-Dr. Ruth-Ann Landers-Donna Summer all rolled into one. She is also a disciple of truth in advertising, as her novel This Ain’t No Hearts and Flowers Love Story, Pt. !, is exactly what the title professes it to be. The story, written in something resembling a long narrative poem, is laden with gritty drama, and tempered with humor and life lessons that will leave readers wondering why Darkchild’s work isn’t placed in bookstores next t [...]

    3. During my plane ride, I was reading this book in one hour of nearly one hundred pages out of 297 pages. This is a quick read once you get engaged and engrossed with the main two characters: Baby Girl (BG) also known as "Princess" and Obie (OB), birth name Oscar BryanI would call myself OB too. What the two characters have in common: no motherly love! This is raw, nitty-gritty, entertaining, and Ebonics is the middle name of this book! It is for the Hip Hop Era, new style of writing and format, th [...]

    4. Wow. That sums this book up in one short quick summary. It was amazing. Brooklyn Darkchild is so talented. This is a true page-turner once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. Darkchild deserves a standing ovation for this captivating tale of misery that engulfs you and pulls you through the wringer with the central character Obie. This book was VERY brutal but honest. This book was something different. Princess and OB share a bond that is a much deeper then most people really have. It t [...]

    5. First off, I’m not a romance reader. The title of the book, This Ain't No Hearts and Flowers Love Story Pt1, clearly indicates that this would not be a typical romance novel but I had my doubts at first. That was until I read the first page. Though the book talks about the harsh realities of abandonment, drugs and sexuality, it also has its fair share of humor and overcoming hardships. I was drawn into the story by the author’s writing. The characters were described in rich details and you w [...]

    6. I won this book on the giveaway (Thank you!) I can honestly say I’ve never read a book like this before and once I got used to the Ebonics I quite enjoyed it. The characters were bold, funny and realistic. I love the narrative of being inside the character’s heads; it made them both relatable and more realistic. The story kept me on my toes, never knowing what was coming next, and the ending was a cliff hanger than has me biting my nails and wondering what will happen in the second book!

    7. This Ain’t No Hearts and Flowers Love StoryWas an interesting read, it was rather different from other books I’ve read. It took me a little while to get over the Ebonics that the story was written in. Besides the Ebonics I would say it was as good read. The characters were bold, racy and entertaining. I would recommend anyone who likes a down to earth story to check this novel out.NDEA BAAMBC Reviewer

    8. I won this book from Brooklyn's website. I meant to take the book with me on my trip to Staten Island, so glad I didn't. This is truly a page turner, I would of been so absorbed in the book I would of forgotten the purpose for my visit to Staten Island. This is a definite must read.

    9. It is for the Hip Hop Era, new style of writing and format, that can reel you in to keep reading or scare you off from your normal novel. What makes it clever, I thin [...]

    10. While I haven't completed reading the book; what I have read has me Wowed. I am enjoying it, captivated by it! It is like reading about some of the people that live and has lived right here in my community, people I have passed by on a daily basis. It is real, raw, and gritty. The Author is connected, intuitive! It is hard for me to believe that the Author herself has not lived this, experienced this, or been heavily influenced by these types of lifestyles and choices.Maybe, possibly, she is just [...]

    11. I received this book from a giveaway. It did take me a while to get into this book. Once I got past the ebonics, it was a good story. It sucked me on and kept me reading. You can relate with the characters and everything that they have been through.

    12. I could not get through this book. I got to about page 100 and gave up. The book is very difficult to follow. I can't really follow what is going on very well and there are so many characters that are not really significan that I had a hard time trying to figure out how everyone was related. The other thing is that this book has a lot of swearing in it. Im not afraid of a few eff bombs here and there but quite literally there was just too much of it on EVERY page. If anyone wants to try it out I [...]
