    1. You guys. This book has been such a labor of love. History. Magic. Cute boys in suspenders. It's like magical newsies without the singing or gangs of New York with magic. There is time travel, a badass girl thief, secret societies, a diverse cast, and so much more. I have loved writing these characters and this world and I hope you all love it too!!

    2. “The only rule that counted was to not get caught.” This book really surprised me.I’m not sure what I expected when opening this book but I was incredibly surprised by just how much I ended up enjoying this book, I think if you are a fan of the six of crows you may end up liking this book. I think I have found one of my favourite reads of 2017, I was just blown away by how much I liked this book. This is my first book by Lisa Maxwell and I can assure you that it won’t be my last. Yes, thi [...]

    3. I actually bought this book because the cover is so pretty. But it was a very interesting book. I loved that it envolved time travelling. I did find it a bit slow at times. But overall I really enjoyed it!

    4. A new chapter of the struggle of people with magical powers with those who don't.And I admit, I checked the first 3 chapters because of the COVERd a very trusted friend told me it reminded her with The Diviners, my all time favorite also Six of Crows. But it's the covere on.And it turned out everything I wished for in Urban FantasyTime Travel, Early 1900s, Real historical character facts, Magicd a MagicianThe Last MagicianGod I love it so much. I love how rich the characters are, how the plot twi [...]

    5. 4.5 stars“Liars Make the best Magicians, and he happened to be exceptional!"I have seen The Last Magician a few times at the bookstore but have never really been interested in it. It wasn't until I heard it involved historical fiction, magic, and a heist, I knew I had to get my hands on it. To be perfectly honest, after reading Six of Crows, I developed a love for heist stories. I may have read one or two in the past, but now I want more. And The Last Magician didn't disappoint. 500 pages of p [...]

    6. I really found the twists and turns of this book incredible. I love the world building and the characters are so intriguing. I loved Unhooded by Maxwell and was excited to read another book authored by her, and I was NOT disappointed at all! Overall, a fun adventure with magic and corruptionways an amazing combination!

    7. This twisty tale of alchemy and magic in Gilded Age New York will keep you guessing until the very last page.

    8. I absolutely LOVED every part of this book, I'm completely enamored with it. The plot is amazing, the characters are amazing, the magic is amazing, the world is amazing. The time traveling aspect is not in the least bit confusing of haphazard because it's written very well. The book follows Esta's journey into the past to retrieve a book that might just free all Mageus from the Brink. The Brink is a magical barrier that has trapped Mageus in Manhattan and trying to leave means risking being stri [...]

    9. There's gonna be a book 2 Right? RIGHT??????? I need more!!!! Also that last 10% was a constant tornado. Read it for the love/hate between Esta and Harte (those names tho!!!!!!!) so good, kinda info-dumpy in the beginning but the rest of the plot makes up for it entirely. Also, TIME TRAVEL ANYBODYYYY?????

    10. I don't have enough words to explain how much i loved this book. One of the best reads of 2017. No, scratch that! It's one of the best reads everParties, extravagant jewels, magic tricks, raw power, betrayals and friendships and swoon-worthy romance ; the Last Magician was not confusing one bit, things took time to build up, and then the world manifested beautifully and the characters burst from the pages and I was in complete owe of the story.I need to recover from this amazing adventure and [...]

    11. Real rating: 4.5 stars“But then, liars do make the best magicians, and he happened to be exceptional.” Ladies and Gentlemen, let me present you the most underrated book of 2017! If you want your mind blown away by magic, time travelling, gangster 1902 New York and a simply awesome band of rouge characters - The Last Magician is your book.It has a vibe of Six of Crows and The Diviners blended together in a perfect mix of mischief and grand adventures. Trust me, you definitely want to be on th [...]

    12. "Never expose your weaknesses, he’d taught her. The minute someone knows where you’re soft, they can drive in the knife"This is one of the really good YA fantasy books that creep inside your very cold heart. my very cold heart is what I meanThe story starts with Esta, a time traveller who leaped through time back in 1902 to locate a powerful book, Ars Arcana. She managed to join Dolph Saunders gang but she was given a job to make Harte Darrigan join the group, a magician who have connections [...]

    13. 4.5 STARS The only reason this wasn't a 5 star and sitting on my favourite shelf was because of the ending but it was still utterly amazingThis book, from page 1, was memorizing, magical and definitely something that pulled me in, almost magnetic in nature. I loved it! However, that ending was a little disappointing.I've never read any of Lisa Maxwell's books before and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, the writing style was amazing, the world building intriguing and the characters were [...]

    14. DNF at page 190 (38%) I really tried to get into this book, but no matter how much I tried, I just kept thinking the word meh in my head all the time. I just couldn't connect with the characters at all and the pov changed way too frequently for my liking. Sometimes it would be 6-8 pages of one person, then 8 pages of another person, then switch back, and it just really put me off unfortunately The plot seemed so interesting, but this far in, it just felt like it wasn't really going anywhere anyt [...]

    15. WrensReads Review:I just really was not into this. I didn't really care about the characters. It wasn't really bad, just wasn't for me or maybe I'll come back to it later and try it again.WrensReads | | Twitter | Instagram

    16. Stars: 4,8EDIT: 2017 - 12 - 11 The Last Magiciangonna get its sequel! I'm so happy! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------I liked this book and here is what I think:× This book was sort of cliché. A beginning was a little confusing.× Time travel? Yes, sir!× It was sort of predictable and I was suspecting who was hiding under the name of Professor.× Idea of the book was on point and it was really well executed.× Interesting characters (even tho some [...]

    17. "The only rule that counted was to not get caught"Buddy read this book with my friendShreya You could just give me this cover and I'd be more than happy with this book cause its that amazing oml This book was fantastic. From the writing to the plot to the charactersI absolutely loved it. If you haven't read this book y'all please go read it. My only complaint is that I have to wait god knows how long for the next one*sighs*I'll put my full review up soon :)

    18. Time travelling + magic + badass female character = awesome readIn this book we follow our main character, Esta on her travel back in time to 1902 New York to steal the book “Ars Arcana” or the Book of Mysteries which they believe contains the very beginnings of magic and could help Esta and the others who possess the magic to break down the “Brink”. This brink is like an invisible barrier that surrounds New York and keep “Magues” (people with magic) inside preventing them to leave t [...]

    19. The Last Magician was a book I was more than excited to read. It has a heist, magic and a historical setting, all elements that made it seem like a book I would love. Unfortunately, the book let me down. However, I don’t think that should stop anyone from picking this one up, because I really think a lot of my lack of enjoyment of the book had to do with my personal preferences when it comes to book lengths. You see, The Last Magician is close to 500+ pages long, and while normally that would h [...]

    20. This is the heist book I wanted from Six of Crows but never got. This is people wielding magic book with deception that I wanted from The Night Circus but never got. This involves time travel (which I love), a cast of characters well developed that leaves you guessing on who to trust and an atmospheric New York (both past and present) that draws you in and doesn't let go. It's not a fast read. It's a chunk of a book that made me savor every time I sat down to read. Not all five star reads have t [...]

    21. “The only rule that counted was to not get caught.”One of my most surprising reads this years. I was sure I would enjoy it simply because I adore pretty much everything that's about magic but I didn't expect to be this blown away by this stories. It was my first Lisa Maxwell novel but for sure not my last one. I can not wait to read her other books in 2018. Her writing is easily to read and it made me so easy to just dive into the story and read chapter after chapter. I literally couldn't pu [...]

    22. 4.5/5 • imagine of merge of Six of Crows(ish, because it's actually really different!) with A Darker Shade of Magic vibes, mixed with time travel, slow burn romance, and magic !!!it took a while for it to get good, but when it did, it got GOOD. the first 70ish pages are a bit rough. you don't know what's going on, the time keeps changing, and you're not sure how the world works. i almost almost put it down but i'm so glad i didn't because IT'S AMAZING. after the hump of confusion at first, i c [...]

    23. You can find more of my reviews at Forever 17 Books.I am wavering between 4 and 4.5 stars. How about 4.25?The Last Magician – one of my most anticipated releases for 2017. Magic, time travel, and historical fiction all rolled into one book was sure to be an epic reading experience for me. And it was!The story jumps around a bit in the beginning to different time periods to set the stage. We start off in New York at the turn of the twentieth century and discover firsthand the devastating conseq [...]

    24. “The only rule that counted was to not get caught.” *sings The greatest show book from The greatest showman while hugging her copy and dancing around the room*I loved literally everything. Masterpiece alert right here.Esta, our main character, is funny, smart and has her priorities straight. She's perfect omg. She's a formidable pickpocket from our time and has some old magic, she can manipulate time and also travel through it with a magical stone. Her mission is to steal an old book from 19 [...]

    25. I waffled back and forth on whether I wanted to devote time to reading this. In theory, it sounded good. In practice, it was mildly entertaining. But if I'm being honest, it read like it was trying entirely too hard to be the next Six of Crows. Heisty and with a crew leader who resembled Kaz more than a little, it had its moments. But it was also supposed to occur during the early 1900s, and I just never felt like I was transported back to that time period.

    26. The end was full of so many twists and turns! I love the cover of this book and I also fell for the hero Harte, AKA the Magician. Love the overlay between old New York and modern New York. Enjoyed the layers between what was real and what was illusion too.
