    1. “You should be afraid, woman. Those who don’t fear nature die. Fear is useful. Pride is not.” I just finished reading Claimed by the Mountain Man by the mega talented Amelia Smarts and am still fanning myself off! This book was not only smoldering hot but oh so achingly emotional too. I always need a side of tenderness with my stern dominants and this book was overflowing in sweetness, steamy sensuality and heavenly spice! I felt deeply for both characters and although "Trapper Jack" was q [...]

    2. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review through Wicked Reads.Nettie is a headstrong and naive girl left to fend for herself after the the death of her husband. After struggling with society, she decides to leave town and head for the woods.Jack is an all around mountain man. He likes his peaceful and quiet life that he has in the wilderness. When Jack sets a trap to catch the creature after his chickens, he never expects to catch a woman. He quickly finds that she is stro [...]

    3. *I received a free copy to read and review for wicked reads review team* This book was OK and a quick read. It follows Nettie who is down on her luck trying her best to survive after the death of her husband. She steals from Trapper Jack and he catches her, this is where the story really begins. The characters are likeable enough, however I felt there was a little too much spanking and a little less of everything else. I would have liked more of a back story for the characters. I had one major i [...]

    4. This was so much fun!Nettie escaped a bad life in town after her husband died, and tried to make it on her own in the mountains. What she lacks in skills to live in the wild, she makes up for in grim determination, finally stealing chickens from Trapper Jack. After catching her, he teaches her how to fend for herself, how to embrace a dominant man's touch, and how to love again. This was romantic, sweet, entertaining, and erotic.Loved it!!!

    5. I believe the synopsis is very accurate to the story and gives the reader a great idea of what they will discover in this book. There are some issues that I can see will offend the modern day female reader so I want to stress they you don’t forget the fact this was taking place in the mid 1800’s where men and women were treated differently. The roles had not become as parallel as they are today so make sure you keep your mindset in that time era and I think you will really admire Nettie even [...]

    6. This is a terrific historic western romance with plenty of heart. Jack finds Nettie when he sets a trap for whatever has been stealing his chickens, and when he finds out she's determined to live on her own in the wilderness, he has to deal with his conflicting emotions. He admires her decision to be self-sufficient without resorting to the usual distasteful choices that women face, but he also fears for her safety and survival. He needs her to learn to obey his rules that he teaches her just so [...]

    7. Amelia Smarts does it again! If I lived in the woods, I would want my own Trapper Jack! I had heard about this book before it's audio release, but was unsure it would live up to it's reputation. It did and more. From beginning to end, Amelia Smarts has a way of drawing you in with her spunky, independent women and alpha men. Then, just when you think you have a favorite hero, Trapper Jack comes along! Nettie who is trying as hard as she can to escape her past of being a prostitute steals Trapper [...]

    8. I was wanting to find a lighter and happier read and browsed through my 'to read list and finally picked up Claimed by the Mountain Man and was soooo happy I did. Both characters have a past that has shaped them and for their own separate reasons have fled into the wilderness to seek solace, but it is within each others arms their hearts at long last begin to heal.Nettie is determined to stand on her own two feet despite the imminent threat of starvation which I admire. However one of the reasons [...]

    9. Jack and Nessie are both emotionally hurt from past relationships. Nessie is trying to just survive when Jack catches her in a trap he set for an animal. Jack does not want company, he likes his solitude. Nessie does not want to be saved, she wants to be strong and prove she can care for herself. But Jack's innate nature to care for a woman takes control of the situation. Even though Nessie goes out on her own, Jack is always near by. Their beautiful story of love and loss will shake your founda [...]

    10. Yum mountain man"OverallPerformanceStoryAudio versionThe only complaint I have for this story is it's short. The narration on the other hand is ok, if a little bland. Several times I almost fell asleep listening to it. I also don't think he got the voices across very well. I wish I had the e-book version. Would I listened to this again? No not unless it was redone with a different narrator, read it though yes. This Audio book was given to me for free at my request from the publisher or author and [...]

    11. There were parts I really liked and parts I felt ambivalent about. The spanking for fun was great, but when it was a punishment then not so much. It was accurate for the time period though.Overall I really enjoyed it, the character interaction was interesting (and hot) and all the survival skills information was useful for the story and real life. The narration matched the story well, I enjoyed the character voices and the overall delivery.I received a free copy of this book from the publisher an [...]

    12. Safety - (view spoiler)[*Both have dead spouses.*She was a whore for about two years after her husband passed. *He hasn't been with anyone in a long time. *Neither were with anyone else after they meet. She ran away to live in the woods before they meet to get away from whoring. (hide spoiler)]Domestic Discipline story. - Spankings and light bondage.

    13. This book had potential, but Nettie, our heroine, made this a very unpleasant read. She's quick to assume, fickle, and stubborn to the point of stupidity. I couldn't bring myself to care this character.

    14. Claimed by the Mountain Man by Amelia Smarts was a good read. I enjoyed reading Nettie and Jack's story. Nettie flees her life after her husband dies but finds herself in trouble. That was when she meets Jack and nothing goes as she's planned. This was a good read.

    15. It was short, but I liked the story. I wish there was more to the ending, but It was sweet and funny to a point. I enjoyed the little bit of dominance that was going on too.

    16. Nice readThis is the first book I've read from this author. It was a nice read, and seemed true to the historic period where it was set.

    17. This book has an emotionally interesting storyline. It really is a good book I just had to ignore the spankings. I get that there are those couples who like the D/s life. I am just not into it, myself, but I really wanted to read this book. And I am glad I did. Trapper Jack and Nettie helped to heal each other and didn't quite see it until it was almost too late. 💓

    18. Following the death of her husband in the Civil War, Nettie is forced to work as a prostitute in the local saloon. She quickly finds herself owing more to the saloon owner than she actually makes. Caught in an endless cycle of debt she decides to skip town and fend for herself in the territory surrounding the town of Helena. Unable to provide food for herself she takes to stealing chickens from a nearby settler. After losing several of his chickens to predators, trapper Jack Abrams decides to co [...]

    19. I'm a big fan of Amelia's Smarts' books. Her characters are always well-crafted – strong, likable heroines, and swoon-worthy alpha heroes. “Claimed by the Mountain Man” is no exception.Nettie is living off the grid, trying to fend for herself, when she finds herself alone and destitute in the mountains. She's left behind a life of prostitution, determined that she would rather live off the land alone than sell herself. The story begins with her attempts to steal from the Mountain Man, the [...]

    20. Turn off your phone and be prepared for a beautiful romance, masterfully told. Yesterday I decided to start reading this book. Start only, I thought. Hooked from the first page, I couldn’t stop until I finished – with a satisfied sigh. The Montana mountains are a beautiful, often dangerous place. The stark realities of frontier life are realistically depicted with the perfect amount of detail, along with the message that two people together have a better chance of survival than fighting that [...]

    21. THE ILLUSION OF FREE WILLTwo people brought together by unusual circumstances, and together they do their best to avoid emotional attachments. Both have been married and lost their spouses. Nettie was in love with her husband where she came to Montana as a mail order bride, he enlisted to serve the Union army in the Civil war and is killed, leaving her homeless and having to fend for herself. Trapper Jack was in love with his wife, but her deceit of virginity left him bitter, he served in the Co [...]

    22. Nettie is trying to survive the wilderness of Montana and she has occasionally stolen a chicken from Trapper Jack but this time she is caught. Trapper Jack thought a big cat or something was stealing his chickens so he dug a whole to catch the thief so when he saw a woman in the hole he couldn't believe it. Trapper Jack decides to take her in and after spanking her for stealing he has her stay because he likes her company. Nettie loves being there but she doesn't want to be dependent on any man [...]

    23. This was a great historical/BDSM alpha male read.Nettie lost her husband and everything else. She's trying to steal a chicken so she can eat when she falls in Trapper Jack's trap.I loved the characters. Nettie being a strong woman who wants to support herself without the help of a man. Jack is the Alpha male. He's in charge, and things are done he way. When you sass or disobey, there will be punishment. The writing was fantastic and the story flowed seamlessly. It's told in both Nettie and Jack' [...]

    24. I enjoyed this book! I felt so bad for Nettie, stuck in such a horrible situation. I was pleased when she met Jack, he's gruff and not a man of many words but together they were great. Their journey to romance had twists in the road but it was great fun! I received this book from Stormy Night Publications as an Advanced Reader Copy.

    25. This is my first ever book By Amelia Smarts and i have too say i was impressed this book is witty smart exciting exhilarating and rather romantic and throw in some spanking and hot intimacy and bam you have this book.Awesome read I loved this book i was riveted through out.
