    1. “Lies require commitment.” ----Veronica RothEmma Haughton, an English author, pens a gripping and heart breaking story about a teenager in her new book, Cruel Heart Broken that centers around the life of a high school teenage girl whose life turns upside down when she acts out of line for the very first time in her life and how she is devastated and torn apart because of such incident that made her a murderer. Synopsis:Laurie is a good girl - so everyone thinks. But seven months ago she did [...]

    2. Before I could add this to currently reading I'd read it. One sitting. This afternoon. Really great emotional stuff. Full review to follow.

    3. *I would like to thank Usborne for sending me a paperback copy of this book. This doesn't affect nor influence my review.* When I started reading this book, I already had a few guesses about what might be the secrets of Laurie and Charlie. The secret of Laurie? I got it right. Not really a minus point for me because I wanted to read something about that secret of hers. It was something that will make you think CAREFULLY.Charlie's secret? It was more than what I expected it to be. I thought he was [...]

    4. (I received a copy from Usborne YA in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book. Thank you Usborne!)You can also read this review at The Nocturnal FeyFinal rating: 4.5/5First of all, I'd like to tell you how much this book made me want to eat it because of the cover. lol. BUT the cover may seems so sweet, yes? --- But isn't the title a little too depressing already? It's my first Emma Haughton novel and wow, I loved this book! I'm now signing her up on my auto-r [...]

    5. You'd think, wouldn't you, that a heart could only break once? If only that were true. This was a gripping, emotional read and deals with some very important subjects like depression, teen pregnancy, abortion and suicide. It also shows us how something like a false accusation can end up in suicide, and quite honestly, this was one of the very few books I've read recently that made me feel 100% emotionally invested. The characterization and writing were top-notch, but I do wish we could have learn [...]

    6. Cruel Heart Broken is Emma Haughton’s third YA novel. I enjoyed her previous two books, Now You See Me and Better Left Buried, so I was keen to read this latest offering and I’m pleased to say I loved it.Cruel Heart Broken is a more introspective novel than her other books which are more overtly thrillers. In Now You See Me and Better Left Buried the female protagonists confront external threats and dangerous situations as well as relationship and family problems. In Cruel Heart Broken there [...]

    7. Cruel Heart Broken has the kind of drama, mystery and emotion that keeps you reading, that is addictive because it makes you always want to know and uncover everything that has happened and that is going to happen. The structure of the novel worked well, with the narrative focusing on the present, and then looking at the past, and then back to the present. It meant that suspense was built because information was released slowly, and it showed how important the past was in this story and how much [...]

    8. Thank you Usborne for sending me a review copy.Well this was my first book by Emma Haughton.I really liked the book. A four star read for me. The book was divided into two parts the NOW part and THEN part.Finished the book in a single sitting because i was just so curious to know what the secrets were of Laurie and Charlie. Felt a little bad for Nicole for what she did.It was a heartbreaking story, to be honest i wanted more. I really wanted to know what would have happened when Charlie confesse [...]

    9. You'd think a heart could only break once if only that were true. Fifteen year old Laurie Riley, lives in Hove. Her Mum a GP, her Dad retired from the police force. Laurie's sister Katy hates her,but why? Maya Patel is Laurie's one and only friend. Laurie is a murderer. It is a secret. Her secret. Never to be told. Charlie accused everyone's favourite biology teacher Mr Rochester of assaulting him. Mr Rochester kills himself. Laurie finds herself pregnant. Wow so much happens Cruel Heart Broken. [...]

    10. Once you start reading, you can't really stop.I don't know how I feel about this book. It's mixed. Afterall, it is a nice read. The book tackles really important issues without getting too intense or too dramatic. It plays safe.

    11. Emma consistently delivers wonderfully pacey thrillers. Couldn't put this one down. Very real and emotional, with characters that you can believe in. Highly recommended.

    12. I read this in one sitting. A very important book that tackles issues that seems to be still taboo in year 2017.The characters felt real. All their flaws, complexity and imperfection. You'd be rooting for each and one of them til the end. You'd feel for them and try to understand what they're going through. Haughton's writing style is light and easy to follow, it captures the plot and never strayed away from it. A good short read.

    13. "You'd think, wouldn't you, that a heart could only break once? If only that were true.""One mistake. One moment where you make the wrong decision. And lives are lost, or wrecked for ever.""Most people seem happy enough, appear to be sailing through their lives, but it's just an illusion, isn't it? Deep down, they've all got their own problems, their own issues.""But life's not really like that, is it? Nowhere is always sunny -- but it doesn't rain all the time either."

    14. Secrets and lies ruin relationships in this intoxicating thriller. It wasn’t what I was expecting but I was captivated from the start and really enjoyed it. I found myself second guessing the characters but always got it wrong!

    15. Cross-posted from Nightjar's Jar of Books.Laurie, Charlie and Maya used to be best friends; they did everything together, and kept no secrets from each other. That’s changed recently though – Laurie has a big secret that she’s too ashamed to confess to, and it doesn’t help that Charlie’s inexplicably started dating her sister Katy. But Charlie’s newfound interest in Katy is only a small part of something much bigger that’s going on with him… and may somehow be tied to a sudden de [...]

    16. The first few pages really ticked my curiosity that had me wanting to read it when I’m on my to work or home. The plot twists are unpredictable for me not until I spoiled myself and peeked at the very end of the book. *sucksFor the characters I think that was a usual type of character relationship. But the profession of Lee’s mother and father is awesome sauce the drawback was that they didn’t noticed anything. The pacing of the story is not fast nor too slow. It all unfolded in time. I of [...]

    17. I was lucky enough to win this book in a giveaway, thank you to Usborne Publishing Ltd and Emma Haughton for my copy of Cruel Heart Broken. This book is set in Brighton, England and focuses on 3 childhood friends, Maya, Charlie and Laurie with the story being told from Laurie's perspective. This is a coming of age novel and Emma Haughton writes about teenage angst and secrets that eat people up with great aplomb. The book flits between events that happen in the then and now. The themes covered in [...]

    18. So I thought this was a thriller It wasn't lol. BUT! I actually enjoyed it, the writing style was very engaging and the story was pretty interesting. When you keep things hidden inside you for a very long time, they eventually start eating you up from the inside until nothing is left of your former selfYou'd think, wouldn't you, that a heart could only break once? If only that were true.

    19. Really enjoyed this book it deals with a few sensitive subjects and the guilt that comes from those subjects. It talks a lot about how little things lead up to big moments and how you have to deal with the big things after. Very good book.

    20. I couldn't decide whether to rate this four or five. The characterisation is really the strongest point of the story - especially Laurie, who just jumps off the page.
