    1. Heartwarming tale of Jess, a young teacher whose family and lovelife seem to be going haywire. This is a story about all kinds of love. Jess is in love with his best friend David, and David is very affectionate for a (supposedly) straight man. His grandmother is trying to connect with her beloved husband who died a few years earlier. Jess's parents are making lots of wrong decisions in the name of love - staging a religious 'intervention' after Jess came out, putting Grandma in a nursing home ag [...]

    2. 4.25 starsJess is a 24 y/o music teacher who is trying to literally talk his grandmother down from the roof, with the humorous assistance of his brothers, AJ and Thomas.Jess has had feelings for his friend and colleague, David, since they met and figures that he will have to be happy with that. And to top it off, Jess is having to deal with real life in the form of family disagreements and stress. His parents have decided that it's time for his paternal grandmother to go to a nursing home as she' [...]

    3. For me this is one of those books that tried too hard to be heartwarming and I found it cloyingly sentimental at times. Jess has this perfectly wonderful dotty old grandmother and this perfectly wonderful younger brother. Jess is also perfectly wonderful himself as he tries to navigate taking care of both of them while dealing with his parent's rejection (for him being gay). In this perfect storm of wonderfulness is David, the 'straight' kindergarden teacher Jess has a crush on. It all works out [...]

    4. This is a wonderfully written story of family dynamics, with such rich characters. Cry or laugh with them, it is so easy to feel for Jesse, his two brothers, their father and grandmother. The brotherly bond is precious, these boys' love for their grandmother touching and true. Then there is their father who tries so hard to do the right thing for his family but failed somehow. Certain scenes just moved me to tears. And of course the romance between Jesse and David which is tender, romantic and s [...]

    5. “There’s nothing that makes you more insane than family. Or more happy. Or more exasperated. Or more… secure.”– Jim ButcherFamily relationships are always in a state of flux, but an important thing to remember is that love and respect are of the utmost importance. After his grandfather, who was the family glue, dies, Jess of 'Following Grandpa Jess' by TJ Bayer, becomes increasingly concerned about changes that are taking place in his family. Jess is their touchstone, the one they alwa [...]

    6. Considering I get a thank you note in authors notes I am obviously a little biased with this book, but it is a wonderful read. The author's writing style is easy to read, if a little meandering at times, much like actually reading someone's thoughts. Given that the book is in a first-person perspective (the occasionally eccentric Jess's) it's rather fitting.Jess lives what he considers a rather normal if dull life - keeping an eye on his two younger brothers (the lovable manly man AJ and adorabl [...]

    7. 4,5*I was pretty enjoying TJ Baer's previous book, , and I think she's doing a lot of better in this Following Grandpa Jess. She puts the balance between family drama and romance, between humor and sappiness, and it's bring me tears as much as smiles.I was hooked by the cute and adorable prolog. There's seven year old boy who want to be a mailman when he grow up because he's happy when got letters and he thought he would make everybody happy if he deliver them the mails. But then his Grandma said [...]

    8. I liked this book quite a bit and for reasons that I wasn't really expecting. It was the gay-guy-pining-over-straight-guy angle that drew me in, but that turned out to take a back seat to the family dynamics so prevalent in this story. Don't get me wrong, the sappy romance hit the spot, but Jess's familial relationships were really engaging and sweet. I won't spoil the story for anyone else who's planning to read it, but I'd like to comment on the natural course of the story: it kept a really go [...]

    9. I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't just a romance, but also was about family and I think both aspects were handled really well. The romance was believable and moved at a realistic pace and I really enjoyed the family interactions. I would definitely recommend this book.

    10. I don't even know what was so cute about this oneI'd love a sequel because I think it was the MC's sarcastic voice. So cute.

    11. This is a fine, warm story about family values and problems in Jess Madison's family. The writing style is enjoyable, clean and easy to read. I liked the story!
