    1. When I started reading this book, I just couldn't stop and read it until 2:00am. It's an extremely interesting and different story. The main character's love and dedication to her sister is beautiful.I can't wait for the second book. I recommend to all readers who like an intense, dramatic, and well written story.

    2. The beauty of Lantern in the Mist is its focus on family love, survival, and an unwavering persistence to, even against all odds, be true to one's self. Kathleen Rose Colby grows and learns to understand life the hard way. Yet, she never loses her femininity and hope. Loved it!

    3. I have to say, Ms. Shepherd's writing was spell-binding. Very detailed and descriptive, the wording sucked you in, not only helping you 'see' the world, but to hear, smell and taste it. The intense cold of Alaska sharply contrasted with the heat of the Great Plains. The characters were magnificently drawn. You were high as a kite when they were happy, and wanting to drop off a cliff when they were in despair. I remember reading a review on Mockingjay where the person tore Suzanne Collins apart f [...]

    4. This is NOT a feel-good story by any stretch of the imagination. It is actually very hard and the main character has an unbelievable amount of bad luck to overcome.I really enjoyed this book from Liliana Shelbrook and was unable to put this one down. I look forward to reading more from her.

    5. Good story, shows turn of century well, needs a little editing but nothing that interferes with the read. You'll care about Kathleen and her sister from the first page.

    6. Lantern in the Mist I received this book from Giveaways. The story starts amongst the deprivation and lawlessness in 1899 in the Yukon amidst the frenzy of the Gold Rush.Kathleen is an innocent heroine who has been dealt a very poor hand by fate. She is devoted to the care of her elder sister who has been left paralysed by an accident. Kathleen is extremely self-sacrificing, but because she is also so feisty, this does not become annoying. In fact, as the story continues and we begin to understa [...]

    7. I first found out about this book through Twitter, read the description and got it right away. It was a gripping story and so heartbreaking to see everything this poor girl went through just to survive. I really hope there will be a book 2 because things are still left unfinished between her and Sam and I really want to see them grow closer. It made sense that she was not ready for anything with him in this book, so I understand that, but it still left me wanting more!

    8. Once I got into this story, I couldn't put it down. It's a gripping story about family love and survival against all odds. It made me wonder if I would have the stamina the main character has. It needs a little editing but this didn't hurt the story. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

    9. I really liked this story line. I've read many 'gold rush' type books and this one is right up there with the others. I didn't like the 'past lives' part of it~because I don't believe in such things. I do hope to read a sequel to this great story.

    10. this story took place in Alaska and New York.I loved how the story unfolded for Josie and Kathleen and Sam. Its about tormented Kathleen by a single woman and the old west. How men treated women back then. How Sam showed her true friendship and taught her to trust men.

    11. Very disturbing view of young girl's survival from Alaska to NY. She does whatever it takes to feed and care for her sister and herself thru the cold and horrible people. Informative read about how people lived during the gold rush.

    12. Read this in one sitting. I'm already waiting for book two of the trilogy. The characters came to life and you start to feel the emotions they are experiencing. Definitely 5 stars and a must read.

    13. This author is so talented at creating characters and making you love or hate them. Her story is fast paced and touching. Needs some editing to improve and already good plot.

    14. Good bookwas not as sure of this book when I got it but could not put it down absolutely great can not wait for book two

    15. While historical fiction for me can be a hit or miss, this book was in a more favorable light. Liliana has got a talent that both stimulates and educates the reader all the while drawing a picture of how great history can be tweaked to fit the imagination. I loved the way she took a period before our time and worked it into a very lovely story, transporting the reader as if they were actually there. I felt like I was watching the scenes front and center, following the characters as they progress [...]

    16. Beautifully written! Great character development. A story of a young woman who goes from being completely innocent, to having to deal with the darkest sides of life as she travels from Alaska to New York with her disabled sister in 1899, and the people she meets along the way. - "Books can alter one's whole life. Involve you in a way that sometimes one can't tell reality from fantasy."- "It happens when you grow up too alone," she said almost inaudibly.-"I know. Fantasy becomes life, and the rea [...]

    17. Both engaging and disturbing. The book demonstrates that knowledge is power and why some men fought to keep women uneducated and in "their place" in the kitchen. Sadly it then reinforces the stereotype by having a man come to the rescue.
