    1. Reading almost like a parable, A Petition to Magic is a short story about a wizard with a guilty secret and a new Queen struggling to trust her instincts. It is a simply crafted but well written tale in which good overcomes evil, and it will certainly keep readers intrigued until the end. Readers will no doubt love to hate the misogynist antagonist, Marcus, and will be glad to see Queen Celeste use her powers for good and not evil while she learns to trust herself as much as she trusts her wizar [...]

    2. The short story for review is “ A Petition to Magic” by Graham Downs. The region has a new queen, due to the death of her mother. But have no fear, Solon at your service. Who is Solon? A royal wizard who has the ability to get the truth from people who come to request aid from the queen. Easy peasy, right?Enter Marcus, a Virduran farmer, who claims his cow was stolen by his neighbor. Is he telling the truth? It’s up to Solon to whip up a spell and find out. But there’s a problem. He’s u [...]

    3. Very interesting story that explores fears of an individual that come about when one exercises power of a given talent which has detrimental results due to a simple human flaw. This results in the loss of self trust and confidence. This book illustrates how one can judge one's self severely and how belief and confidence of another in one can make one regain composure and self trust. It also illustrates that confronting fears head on can free a person and regain peace of mind. This book is practical [...]

    4. A simple, but interesting little tale woven around a new young Queen, a Wizard who is afraid of doing magic and a greedy farmer.See my review also at:smashwords/books/view/rnesandnoble/w/a-pet.on/A-Petition-Ma.on/A-Petition-Magi

    5. I must say, I quite enjoyed this little story. What intrigued me most was the characters, notably Queen Celeste. You're never quite sure what she's up to. At first she comes across as a bit of a silly girl, but then you always get the impression she has something else up her sleeve. She has an interesting relationship with the main character as well and his problem with casting magic is a very interesting one.“A Petition to Magic” is an entertaining read with some parabolic elements. It's a [...]

    6. A simple fantasy set in the days of courts, queens and wizards which is surprisingly entertaining. Don’t get me wrong the author is not the next Tolkien; this short story lacks a certain descriptive attention and characterisation but charms none-the-less. I suspect I may be too past it to fully appreciate it and suggest that it aims for a possible teenage audience. It is worth a quick read and I think the author has the potential to improve to the point of creating something very interesting.

    7. A failed wizard, a failed farmer, and a new queen anxious to improve her image in the eyes of her subjects: these are the main characters in this short and simple but entertaining tale. It offers opportunity for reflection on the themes of monarchy, dishonesty, and ways of coping with failure.

    8. This was a light, entertaining somewhat enjoyable read. It starts of with a good intro of the magician, Solon, and his plight. Doesn’t take long for you to feel for him. And it leaves the specifics of his dilemma up in the air so you are enticed to read on. It then moves on to an outside family where the villain Marcus, lives with his family. Typical abusive man of the house kind of guy here. But since this is a short story it’s nice for more than one character to have some depth. It was a t [...]
