    1. Unfortunately, the thing that entertained me most about this book is the fact that my copy is an uncorrected proof copy, awaking the (not so) dormant geeky editor in me. Otherwise, the story failed to grab. While the premise of a story about members of an insular Protestant sect in Ireland is interesting, the actual narrative and characters didn't engage me. I almost left it unfinished, though in the end I guess I'm glad I didn't because it finished better than it started with a few scenes that [...]

    2. A strange book, I enjoyed the writing, but loathed the main character, a selfish, pious, hypocritical, jealous, petty, mean-spirited, snobby, small minded ultra religious woman. If I hadn't liked the writing so much, I would have quit reading, but I was enchanted at the author's use of language.
