    1. At the time it was published, Mr. Beatie's work was a decent introduction to the history of the saddle. It's a general introduction and he doesn't spend a lot of time on early saddles and his facts are fuzzy or reliant on the common theories of the day. He really shines when he gets into his element of the western saddle. The bibliography is short on primary sources, but filled with other resources.
