    1. What makes “Jacqueline the Great! The Pirate Captain” really stand out is that it is a family affair through and through. The author’s children have a prominent place in the book, both as models and as an illustrator (a very talented one at that) and their participation lends the book a bit of familial intimacy that is quite nice. Children have such a wonderful capacity to repurpose any setting into an imaginative destination. With Jacqueline and Jabob we are transported into not a backyar [...]

    2. Only one regret and that is, there were no books like this when my kids were young.I was given a copy of this book for review purposes. First, the highlights: The illustrations are unusual - vivid, colorful, and with a wonderfully odd realism to them. The story is absolutely delightful, and is written in such a way that parents will enjoy reading it to/with their children.I was especially impressed by the brief history lesson at the end of the book, and the referrals to further research. The fac [...]

    3. I received a copy of this book for review purposes. What a wonderful book for both girls and boys. Jacqueline and Jacob play outside, imagining that they are a pirate captain and her sidekick hunting for long lost treasure. Girls are encouraged to aspire to greatness, because as Jacqueline says, “Girls can be anything they want to be.” Even though the primary character is female, boys will enjoy the book, too. What little boy doesn’t want to hunt for pirate treasure? But the very best thing [...]

    4. My niece and I loved this book. It truly defines what it means to be a child by celebrating the imagination. The illustrations are quite different than anything we had seen before. We were very pleased at how realistic and vivid the colors and photographs that made up the illustrations are. I would recommend this adventurous tale to any parent, child, teacher and librarian. Very impressive.

    5. Fun, quick read. I could easily imagine these kids as they raced through imaginary danger. Loved the illustrations: a mix of realism with imagination, just like the story. Great for parents who want to remember what it's like to be a kid, and good for kids to join the imagination party!
