    1. Luna is victimized by the people and situations in her life. She experiences poverty, abandonment, extreme hunger, neglect, abuse and prejudice, but she is not a victim. Her voice radiates from the page with imagination, charisma, kindness, bravery, and above all, honesty. The first part of the story told in the childhood voice of Luna is one of the most unique and very best storytelling voices I have ever read.

    2. COming of age story of a Latina youth. It was written in the language of a teenager. This style madew it difficult to follow at first, but later made it seem more realistic. It is great for anyone working with of intersted in at-risk youth or cultural minorities in the US.
