    1. Beautiful music and elves hopped up on caffeine, what's not to love? It is especially good if you happen to be aware of the REAL machinations that went on trying to save the Agoura Faire site [and yes, they lost] which Lackey so admirably spins into a tale of magic and elvesRead in order.Contains some m/m so if that's a problem for you stay awayBedlam's Bard1. Knight of Ghosts and Shadows (1990) (with Ellen Guon)2. Summoned to Tourney (1992) (with Ellen Guon)4. Beyond World's End (2000) (with Ro [...]

    2. Urban fantasy written before the term urban fantasy really existed. In fact, I think this series may have had a hand in defining the genre. This is magic and elves in LA (not vampire lovers) but there is something about this book I just love. Possibly because it reminders me of home. I never really got into the rest of the series, but this one has been on my shelf for years and I sill come back to in. It may in part have to do with the ending. All life should be that romantic. And that sexy.

    3. One of my most favored memories and my introduction into the genre of Urban Fantasy. Mercedes Lackey and Ellen Guon weave a wonderful web of Elves in the modern day world. The character development is extremely well done, but the plot is left a littl thread-bare in places. Not to worry though, as it seems that this novel is more about exploring the characters than it is about exploring a setting in a story. The characters of Eric, Beth, and Kory are well worked, and their feelings on all sorts o [...]

    4. This was a very good book in that it was written well, exciting, had good development of characters, a wonderful plot, and interesting ideas. Both Elves and humans have magic, with music being the medium of choice, as others (the Bardic Voices books) of Mercedes Lackey's books also have as a grand aspect of their worlds. However, I personally did not like it anywhere near as much as I might have because of the triangle that developed by the end of the book between the three main characters. Also [...]

    5. I decided to read because someone recommended it for containing a canon OT3, and yes, it is a very pleasing book on that level. On every other level oh my god, you guys, this book is so early 90s. Or maybe I should say so Mercedes Lackey? I haven't read enough of her books to judge. But it contains an abundance of Celtic music, Renaissance fairs, street kids (in the 'oh, I make a living busking for money' sense), elves in leather jackets, normal human beings inexplicably wandering around LA in c [...]

    6. ELVES IN L.A.?It would explain a lot, wouldn't it?In fact, half a millennium ago, when the elves were driven from Europe they came to -- where else?Southern California. Happy at first, they fell on hard times after one of their number tried to force the rest to be his vassals. Now it's up to one poor human to save them if he can. A knight in shining armor he's not, but he's their last hope, their

    7. I tried to like this book. I came to it without high expectations, because Mercedes Lackey is not my favorite author, but the premise sounded fun and I thought I'd give it a try. The first few pages were not promising, but stubbornly, I kept going. After about twenty pages I threw up my hands in defeat. But when I saw that so many other reviewers were saying great things about this book and the series as a whole, I told myself I'd give it another shot. It did start to pick up--but by age 75 I h [...]

    8. I've always enjoyed these books and often when I go to a Renaissance Faire I desire to read this book and it's sequelSummoned to Tourney. Or at least the first couple chapters of the second bookAnd then once I read those book I want to read Serrated Edge series. Then I want to read her Di Tregarde series. And eventually I'm catapulted back into my 14 year old self and have to read all of Valdemar again. There's a reason I have six feet of Lackey in my office.

    9. I've enjoyed this book. Just reread it and though I still liked it not one that stands up to reading multiple times as well as some of Ms. Lackey's books. First book of the Bedlam's Bard series. This is the book in which Eric discovers Elves and Magic, awakens Korendil from stasis, meets Arianrhod, for good and ill, and battles her father Perenor. Takes place in LA.

    10. Urban fantasy before it was called urban fantasy! This was a re-read of the Bedlams's Bard series. I originally read these books, when they were first published, and devoured them as soon as each was published. See Series review on the last book.

    11. This was a good story from Ms. Lackey. We are back to her world of Fae which I love. Eric is a guy I could really get into. I liked him a lot and I admire his good heart. I enjoyed the weaving of music with magic. Certain songs are like magic to me so I can understand. Ms. Lackey once again creates a good fantasy book which I can recommend.

    12. I have had several books in this series for a while. They were in a box given to me by a friend when she was moving. I don't know why I waited so long to start this series. I am looking forward to reading the rest.

    13. Lackey has been recommended to me. I'm not sure this one won me over -- a bit conventional for the genre -- but maybe I'll have to try some more.

    14. Great character development and great concept. This book really got me into the urban fantasy genre. Lackey also does an excellent job of adding relevant pop culture inferences.

    15. I did actually like this book though the main character, Eric, drove me nuts. One of ways this series has stood out to me is the way all the characters have grown thoughout the series.

    16. Sometimes poorly written, but an interesting story with a very interesting ending. Overall, a pleasant read.

    17. One of my most favorite books written by Mercedes Lackey. Anyone who is a fan of music needs to read this series!

    18. Another great Bardic Magic from Lackey. If you are a musician (or if you wanted to be one) you should read this book! Oh and you should like fantasy book stoo.

    19. Magic, music and fae make an excellent combination. (view spoiler)[Eric, Kory and Beth forming a permanen triad didn't surprise me (hide spoiler)]
