These are understated, thoughtful stories whose events do not imprint well on the memory, a pseudoreal configuration of seemingly endless paragraphs spanning decades and multiple states of mind.     2. Leonid Tsypkin is one of the greatest unknown writers of the 20th century. During his lifetime, the Soviet authorities didn't allow him to publish anything, so he was "discovered" only in the 90s. This book came out recently in English in an impressive translation, yet I'm sure very few people will pay any attention to it: it's much too serious and depressing, and its author expresses himself in too complicated a way for contemporary readers to bother.
