    1. Though not as deeply satisfying a saga as "Sironia, Texas," I enjoyed Madison Cooper Jr.'s second and last novel. Each page is loaded with lively and very often humorous dialog and entertaining dialect, along with the protagonist's inner thoughts. Like "Sironia" it is set in a small Texas town, post-Civil War, a-swirl with family secrets and romance. "Hacienda" is a lighter read, both in length and subject matter.
