    1. I appreciate FirstReads giving me the opportunity to read and review this bookThis was an awesome read. A coming of age story full of mystery and Voudoo. As a young girl Maya is forced to leave Haiti under horrible circumstances and makes her way to Miami in a rickity boat. The sole survivor she is found by a young boy and taken to live with Madame Mirta the local Voudoo priestess. Maya brings with her the pain and resentment of having to leave her family and first love behind because of the wea [...]

    2. So far so good. I like the characters and the subject matter is interesting. I 'won' this book on . I think that is pretty neat.

    3. Love story. Yes. Murder mystery! YEAH! I've always fascinated by magic and voodoo culture, not necessarily the practice of it, but the lore and background. I was raised Catholic and taught different things, which I have in common with the author, Carine Fabius, so anything different is intriguing. Plus, it's always good to think there's still a little magic in the world, right?Forbidden love. Murder investigations. A crazy Baron. A TIME LEAP! Oh, how I love time leaps. A young girl falls in love [...]

    4. THE MAIN CHARACTERS ARE CULTURALLY DIVERSE MODERN WOMEN AND THE GREAT GIFT OF THE BOOK IS THAT THEY RESPECT, BLEND AND AUGMENT EACH OTHER. NO CAT FIGHTS HERE, JUST GENUINE INTELLECTUAL AND EMOTIONAL CURIOSITYE COLORFUL SETTING IS TODAY'S MIAMI. THE TEXTURE IS PAINTED IN HAITIAN VODOU, KREYOL(CREOLE) AND CUBAN SPIRITSTURDAY COMES IS AN INFORMATIVE, SUSPENSEFUL AND UNIQUE READ!
