    1. I wasn't sure until the end of this story when this fell into the story line. This was a nice little pre-story for the series. This is how it all started! This makes more sense to me where it came from. Jake is a hot guy who seems to really know how to use the whip. This is a rather sweet story which I wished had more to it. It was a very fast read.

    2. I was surprised by this book it was actually better than i expected, and there was enough character development and history for me, especially because its so short, this is a short prequel to this series, but there were a few things that should have been there that i think would have bumped this baby to a 4 or 4.5 for me so i will have to say 3 or 3.5.So this is about a queen who was kidnapped and abused years ago and this has really messed her and her magic up and she needs to be "tamed" by the [...]

    3. This is a short prequel to Burkhart’s Blood and Shadow series. At first, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this story. Mainly because the Queen has undergone a terrible ordeal, she was kidnapped and abused by her captor. Her closest councilors have tried to help her heal, namely by trying to replicate the sexual sadism her captor subjected her to. I know, when I got to that point I was very much thinking Nope, flouncey, flounce.I was concerned this was going to be a rape/exploitation stor [...]

    5. I actually really enjoyed this story. Jakon rav'Tellan is a horse master who at one time played a small part in rescuing the High Queen of Shanhasson after she was abducted and abused as a young girl. Because of the abuse she suffered, she's unable to have a relationship with a man, and as such, is thinking of abdicating due to her inability to conceive an heir due to her fear of men. Her abductor had whipped her and sexually abused her. Now the Lord Steward feels that with Jake's expertise with [...]

    6. I found this to be a very strange story. It has a BDSM theme, but the premise for why the High Queen required this treatment was unbelievable to the point of ridiculousness, and the author's choice for how the BDSM scenes should be executed bordered on the unpalatable. I love a good BDSM story, but this just wasn't one. Those aspects of the story felt so awkwardly written that, to me, it came across as abusive. What the author does do right, however, is the romance. If you look at this story from [...]

    7. Jake is a stable hand, working the horses is his specialty. He knows just what makes them tick and how to handle them with expert hands. When he is called on to address his Queen's special needs, he is eager to help. But he is anxious, because not only has he been in love with her since the day he saved her from the evil clutches of the Shadow who captured and tortured her as a young woman, but he is also weary of the curse of the dragon that resides within him. Knowing he has only one chance at [...]

    8. After reading this one, I found out that there was a story before this, which probably explained the characters in more detail. As it was, I felt completely lost in the first few pages. Once I was able to fill in the gaps, I was able to get into the story a little more.I really enjoyed the imagery, and the details that the author wove into the story so well. However, I was very disappointed by the way the story fell flat after the build-up. The heroine submitted far too easily, in my opinion. Wh [...]

    9. Synopsis: "Prequel to The Shanhasson TrilogyAfter working in Her Majesty’s stables for five years, Jake is called into the palace under a veil of secrecy. The High Queen is ready to abdicate, and he’s her last hope of overcoming the Shadow that has haunted her.Thankfully, the Horse Master is bringing his whip."My Review: I did rather enjoy this story, so much so that I plan to read the entire trilogy but I wanted so much more. I realize that this is a novella introduction to the series but I [...]

    10. This book really tries to hook you into buying the rest of the books in the series. Honestly I was a little disappointed though. Judging by the cover (I know, shame on me!) I was expecting something hot, sexy and primal. Instead this turned out to be mild, at best. Not really spicy at all. I could discuss this book with my Mother without blushing and that let me down. Still it was well written and the Hero was endearing in his tenderness and expression of emotions.

    11. Didn't enjoyI started to enjoy the first part of this book it was of the horsemen that was a master of horses who was Dragon .he was in love of the high priestess queen that was tortured . Who needed his mastery but then I just stop enjoying it I couldn't get into the but and shut it off .I hate giving bad review beause they work so :) are to write these but it's just not for me.

    12. A free download that I actually read. I discovered that it's just a beginning teaser for a series (although it's not listed on the series page for some reason). I'm writing this short note b/c it happened to be a nice allegory for a dom/sub relationship. To be clear, there is an actual D/s relationship in this novella, but the fantasy aspects illustrate the power exchange nicely. For a quick read, I'd recommend it.

    13. I love that authors are putting out these teaser prequals (and making them free or uber- cheap for ebooks) but this one did nothing to whet my interest to read more of the series. I think maybe because this plopped me down in the middle of the story and only gave a few details on what happened to the Queen to make her the way she is. – Maybe the first book in the series would give me more answers but I did not enjoy this enough to find out.

    14. This was short and sweet. It's classified as BDSM but it didn't really seem like it to me, except at the beginning due to her difficult past. It's a prequel, and if the series is free I might check it out. But although I enjoyed this one all right, I don't really feel the need to continue with these characters.

    15. This was a free read for my Kindle, short prequel to The Shanhasson Trilogy. Emphasis on erotic bondage and sadomasochism. The story is a little odd and seems a bit rushed which is to be expected with a teaser prequel but the characters and fantasy element are very original and I did find myself curious to see what else this trilogy has to offer.

    16. I really liked the idea of a horse whisperer helping a hurting girl, but I didn't find as "exciting" as I thought I would. Describing her body using horse parts just I don't know. Sure it is just me. Enjoyed the writing, but was surprised and disappointed that I got 57% through it and it was over. The rest is just excerpts for other books. Oh well, it was a free read and entertaining.

    17. Another free read I found in the middle of the night. Prequel to Shanhasson trilogy. I enjoyed it enough to look into the other books. Even in such a short story, the world being built grabbed my attention.

    18. Very brief prequel, I finished it and had to double check that my eReader had downloaded it correctly. Would have liked to see this story of a horsemaster dominating his Queen to whip away her demons more developed!

    19. Ok, I think this review is going to be short and sweet Or rather spicyAll you have to know is I wish I was the queen in the short story! Definitely a new series to add to my TBR to read soon!

    20. I agree with the other reviewers. It was short, sweet and as a prequel was fine. It wasn't a stand alone really, more like a short fairy tale. I can't say that it has made me interested in reading more of the series.

    21. 3.5 of 5. I really enjoyed this novella, prequel to The Shanhasson Trilogy. It was very well written and had a lachrymose mood to it and it also had some really hot BDSM scenes. I'm convinced. I'm going to read the rest of the trilogy in a not too distant future.

    22. I enjoyed this very short novella. Since I love the Shanhasson trilogy, it makes sense that I'd like the prequel.

    23. the smut was well-written, but i expected a little more content given the cover image and the summary, to be honest.

    24. At times I found it quite funny, and I guess a little cheesy. It was a short story, so I finished it.

    25. A short story and prequel to the Shanhasson series. A quick read where the stable boy finally gets close to the Queen and becomes her master. BDSM and smut.
