    1. I was reading ‘The Origins of Sex’ by Faramerz Dabhoiwala and the chapter that especially caught my attention was the chapter about the birth of the Cult of Seduction. Dabhoiwala claims that there was a significant change in the way women’s sexuality was viewed and it happened around 17th century. To simplify it: before, women were considered sexual creatures who led men astray and after the switch it was men who seduced women and women generally had no sexuality of their own until it was [...]

Rafe [...]

    3. 4.5 starsSweet, tender, heartwarming and a joy to read; Do I really need to write anything more? There are few thing to say about Rake with a Frozen Heart; it's certainly not an original plot. The rakish, brooding lord of the ton and the shy, plump governess, have been done ad nauseum by many romance writers. And yet, this book manages to remain fresh, fast paced and very, very engaging with its extremely likable if (or perhaps because of those) imperfect heroes, the mystery plot that to my delig [...]

    4. I haven't read any other books by this author, and after reading this one, provided by netgalley, I have to wander what exactly I've been doing with my life.Yes, I really, really enjoyed this one. It hits so many perfect notes for me, that it's almost hard to explain. The writing flows so well that I really wish more authors could write like this. It's not particularly grammatically correct, but she writes in the same style as her protagonists inner monologues, which is rather a clever way of us [...]

    5. 4.7 heartbreakingly beautiful stars.Oh my God. I just. I-I-Oh God. I'm in awe. I just loved this book so darned much!!!This book had exactly, exactly, exactly what I want in a romance novel. Innocent, delightful, original heroine? Tick.Cynical, brooding hero with a heart? Tick.Sizzling chemistry? Tick.Cynical hero's frozen heart gets warmed by the heroine? Tick.Deep, abiding and intense love? Tick.God. I loved this book. The heroine was so utterly charming, and the hero just melted my heart with [...]

    6. This is a lovely book about an adorable artless governess and a typical embittered self-flagellating Earl (more sinned against than sinned kinds!). The h, a dewy eyed blabbermouth (n she does roll!) makes a fitting foil for our rigid cold rake.He rescues her from villains and her own naive stupidity more than once and she proceeds to chatter and skip and prod and poke into his frozen heart. They make a perfect couple and I just loved their chemistry and interplay. But what I felt let the book dow [...]

    8. Reviewed at Bitten By Paranormal RomanceRafe is haunted by his past. The guilt he harbors from decisions made long ago has turned his heart to ice. He feels he no longer deserves to love or be loved. He is truly a tormented hero. Henrietta is a wide-eyed, trusting innocent who blurts out whatever is on her mind – what a breath of fresh air. This is your typical H/h from different sides of the tracks making for a wonderful “opposites attract”. The fire is lit from their first conversation w [...]

    9. Rafe St Alban, the Earl of Pentland, is startled when he finds an unconscious young woman in a ditch near his home. He's even more startled when the woman, Henrietta, turns up as a stowaway in his carriage several days later, running away from an employer who accused her of stealing jewelry. Against his better judgment, Rafe agrees to help her track down the real culprit and prove her innocence, but the more time he spends with the outspoken and compassionate Henrietta, the less he wants to let [...]

    10. This was a surprise! Best of all this book was written by an author from the UK about the Historical UK. The english spelling was such & terminology was great! Obviously not an american describing something they aren't really familiar with! This was a great short story. Not a Novella. Henrietta is a governess accused if stealing heirloom jewels from her employer. After whitnessing the break in & being knocked unconscious by the housebreaker & left for dead in a ditch, she is rescued [...]

    11. I was lucky to be given a copy to review by the lovely Marguerite herself.First impressions? The cover is just wonderful and so elegant. Now for the story. Stolen Emeralds. An Aristocrat with emotions and a sparky heroine who is true to herself. The book is such a great read. I fell into Regency England from the first page. Loved the opening pages and the story itself flowed like a river. Twists and turns, ups and downs. It was just great.Marguerite gives the Regency romance a break from the norm [...]

    12. Marguerite Kaye reminded me why I love reading historicals with this passionate tale. All the usual traits were there - innocent governess being seduced by the handsome rake - or was it?Henrietta may be the virginal governess and Rafe may give the impression of the typical regency rake, but that's were the similarities end. Henrietta is no simpering virgin, far from it, she is outspoken and her innocence is charming. I liked her straight away, as she comes to terms with this strange attraction s [...]

    13. It was a nice book for quiet night , where you need breakout from your schedule and just enjoy a good romance with hot coffee I liked the characters and how they were so good with each other , they complimented each other, like where the heroine was so honest and forthcoming with her optimistic and enthusiastic approach for life whereas the Hero was intelligent , realistic , and had a bit sarcastic approach.I also liked how the puzzle was solved at 60% of the storyline , & from there on we [...]

    14. Review first published to Book Savvy Babe BlogRafe St Alban is an Earl, he is reclusive, cold, and a rake. When Rafe comes across a young woman injured and unconscious on his property, he is unprepared for his world to be tilted on its axis. The young woman in question is Henrietta Markham, a governess who has been caught up in a robbery. As Henrietta's situation becomes more complicated, Rafe becomes more determined to help the woman. As the pair go about trying to clear Henrietta's name and di [...]

    15. Goodness knows why this has over a four point rating. I found it a chore to complete.Henrietta was a pathetic excuse for a character. It seemed the only purpose of her 'speaking her mind' was to advance the plot because the author had no imagination and couldn't think of any other way to achieve the same amount of knowledge being shared. The continuity was horrendous at times, with Rafe (suspiciously like rake, might I add of his name) standing after having never sat down and letting go of her ha [...]

    16. Rafe is a hero tormented by his past. He is dark, brooding and full of guilts. His first marriage was a disaster. He blames himself for the death of his wife and baby. He won't forgive himself and he won't allow himself to find happiness and redemption. Henrietta is a feisty, sweet governess who blurts out literally whatever is on her mind. She is witty, funny and just adorable. When she is accused of stealing, Rafe is willing to help her clear her name and they embark on a journey of love, adve [...]

    17. The talented Marguerite Kaye has outdone herself once again with Rake with a Frozen Heart, a seductively readable tale of blazing sensuality, nail-biting intrigue and dangerous desire that will hold readers spellbound from beginning to end! When Henrietta Markham had gone chasing after her mistress’ mischievous pug, the vivacious governess never imagined that she would find herself attacked by a ruthless housebreaker – or that she would wake up the next morning in the Earl of Pentland’s bed [...]

    18. Henrietta Markham, a rather ordinary, small but feisty little governess meets rather extraordinary, handsome and enigmatic Rafe St Alban, Earl of Pentland under dubious circumstances. She wakes up early one morning in Rafe's bed, with a large lump on her head and a far fetched story to explain the getting of said lump! The story unfolds with Rafe becoming - much against his will to begin with - embroiled in Henrietta's complicated escapade. Rafe is a man with a secret, a past which has left him h [...]

    19. Good book. Rafe made an incredibly tortured hero. He did a great job of rescuing Henrietta the first time, even though he didn't want to. Then he stepped up to clear her name of the charges of theft. He had a terrible habit of going back and forth between cold and kind. I really liked Henrietta. She was a bit on the naive side, but she was a good person. She could see that Rafe had his issues, but she came to see that he was a good person under that rake-like exterior. I loved the way that she s [...]

    20. This ARC was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.Publish date: May 1st, 2012 Fiction – Adult: Romance: Historical, 288 pagesHarlequin (Harlequin Historical)Henrietta Markham is an honest soul, not capable of lying. When she’s accused of having committed a crime, waiting for the Bow Street Runner to arrive doesn’t seem like such a good idea. Determined to find the real culprit and clear her name she sets out for London. How the Earl of Pentland ended up aiding a damsel in [...]

    21. Rafe St Albans and Henrietta Markham. The characters of Rafe is more developed than Henrietta. She, to me, is a mashup of different heroine tropes throughout romance - She is not an individual. I realize that this is a short read- less than 200 pgs, but as the story focuses mainly on Henrietta - I wanted a bit more.

    22. Am excellent read with a far from perfect hero and heroine, who despite this you were drawn to anyway. Very enjoyable.

    23. So sorry I forgot to cross post this from a couple of months agoview originally posted here: thebookpushers/2012/05/04/Publisher: HarlequinPublish Date: Out nowHow I got this book: From the publisher via NetgalleySussex, 1824Waking up in a stranger’s bed, Henrietta Markham encounters the most darkly sensual man she has ever met. 24. 25. This is kind of a hard book for me to review, cause I found myself rolling my eyes at a lot of things happening BUT at the same time it did bring tears to my eyes GAH!The thing is, a lot of what was going on in Rake With a Frozen Heart didn't seem to comply to the time period these characters were living in. I mean, as you may know, I've read a LOT of historical romance novels. And as such, I know a little about the rules that dictated the behaviour of basically everyone. So in my opinion a man [...]

    26. Rake With A Frozen Heart is about Henrietta Markham, a governess who is found unconscious in a ditch on the neighbouring estate, which belongs to the Earl of Pentland, Rafe St Alban. Rafe is an anti-social member of society, shutting himself off from the world around him as he recovers from his failed marriage. The last thing Henrietta remembers before waking up in the Earl’s house is being attacked by someone trying to break into her mistress’s house. When she recovers and manages to explai [...]

A trama me fisgou logo nas primeiras páginas e me manteve interessada até o final.

    28. This review also appears on my blog at thegoldenruleof666Rake with a Frozen Heart is an adorable love story with shocking twists and turns. There's never a dull moment as Henrietta and Rafe fall in love while proving Henrietta's innocence. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Henrietta has been working as a governess and finds herself in a stranger's bed one morning. The stranger happens to be an Earl, but we'll know him as Rafe (love that name!). Henrietta finds out that she had been left in a ditc [...]

    29. This story appealed on so many levels. I can't resist the hero who has locked his heart away. The title of this book says it all.Rafe St. Alban, the Earl of Pentland is the rake with a frozen heart. As with all historicals, this concept of the hardened, brooding rake and the sweet, virginal governess has been done to death. Also the heroine 'speaking her mind' annoys me to no end. Here in this story however, Henrietta does it in such a guileless and charming way I didn't find her grating at all. [...]
