    1. I found this book to be a very slow read for me, but still an informative and fun book to read. I wish I had read it before my trip to New York, but look forward to visiting New York again one day and I will definitely take this book with me. When I was in New York, I could tell many buildings, places and such must have some historic significance and this book revealed those details. If I visit other major cities in the future, I will definitely consider getting/reading the Cultural and Literary [...]

Concentrating mostly on Manhattan, the author mixes history with the present day and explores how culture and the arts shaped the personality of NYC. If you know your history you may find that sections of the book drag just a bit but overall it is an interesting book for those who love the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple.
