    1. There seems to be a new breed of popular science book around aimed at families. These range from the 'for children but adults will like it too' book like Richard Dawkins' The Magic of Reality to 'for adults but children will like it too' in the case of my own Inflight Science. I'd put Adam Hart-Davis's latest in the latter category.     2. I was a bit disappointed by this. The Book of Time is good looking, in the Mitchell Beazley fashion, but very traditional (a polite term for old-fashioned). Adam Hart-Davis does a good job of telling the old stories such as those about the Ancient Greek philosophers and their view of time, biological rhythms, and why we have leap years, but so do a lot of other books. There is very little in the way of modern science here, which is a great pity because there have been relatively recent developme [...]

    3. This book discusses a complex topic in easy to understand language. It is lavishly illustrated, and a good science book for those who might not normally like to read books about science.

    4. Only in the end does it actually get interesting for me. I find it saturated it with facts that appeal to sensation more than anything and seem to be missing the raw detail.
